What happens when a team loses its first in-regulation road game of the season in November? If you’re the Prince George Cougars, you respond with a 7-0 victory in the following match-up.
Easier said than done, that’s cats did just that Saturday night, defeating the Kamloops Blazers in an away contest.
After a sobering 4-2 loss to the Vancouver Giants on Thursday, Prince George came out flying. A goal just nine minutes into the game from Colby McAuley got the evening started for the Cougars. Just a couple of minutes later, Brad Morrison wired one home thanks to a pass from Brogan O’Brien.
Before the first period was up, Jesse Gabrielle and Jared Bethune teamed up Bethune’s seventh goal of the season to give Prince George a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play.
Later on in the second period, Bethune got on the score sheet again with a quick shot past the blocker of Blazers goalie, Connor Ingram. Jansen Harkins assisted on the short-handed goal.
The cats would convert three more times in the third period to seal the 7-0 win. Both Gabrielle and Bethune picked up three points on the night, while Ty Edmonds made 35 saves for his shut-out.
The Prince George penalty kill was flawless, going a perfect six for six with two short-handed goals.
The Cougars will now wrap up their three game road trip in Kelowna against the Rockets on Tuesday night.
