Anyone planning on travelling north along Highway 97 this weekend will need to plan carefully. The Salmon River Bridge is scheduled to close for several hours, blocking the only highway access between Prince George and Mackenzie. Plans are in the works to replace the bridge. But before work crews can do that, they’ll need to move the current structure 20 meters down stream, to set up a detour. Crews have set aside 8 hours to move the massive structure. The closure will begin at 10 Saturday night. During the closure, plans are in place to allow emergency services to cross the bridge. It’s expected construction will be complete by next fall.
