Work BC was at John McInnis Junior Secondary School today on its annual “Find Your Fit Tour”.
Work BC is traveling to 44 communities to give elementary and secondary students exposure to ‘in-demand’ jobs. This year, the tech industry is being highlighted, along with nursing, and community and social work, as well as several trades.
Well over 1,000 students in School District 57 attended the two-day event. Among them were children as young as Grade 4.
“The value of interactive and hands-on learning is so high at any age,” says Tour Manager of Work BC Find Your Fit Tour, Rachel Thorne. “For our elementary students, they come in there excited. It is more about exposure and experiencing things. It’s just a hook to get them thinking about it. For our high school students the program kind of has another twist to it. That’s when we really get into our career advising with our tour presenters.”
