A recent spike in opioid overdoses has Northern Health and Prince George RCMP sounding a public health alert. Between November 20th and 22nd, first responders attended to at least 12 cases. While none were fatal, most patients required prolonged stays in the emergency department and high doses of naloxone in order to recover safely. Testing is being done to determine the type of substances responsible for the overdoses. Meantime , police are warning known drug users in the community and urging the public to call 9-1-1 if you suspect someone has overdosed, even if naloxone has already been administered.
