Please be advised that crews are continuing to work on the water main break that occurred at about 9:00am this morning at 3rd Avenue and Vancouver Street. There will be an extended water outage for residents and businesses along Third Avenue and the surrounding area. At this point, we anticipate this will last 12 to 24 hours. Crews will be working on the issue through the night and until the situation has been resolved.
The City believes that the burst 12 inch pipe dates back to 1957 and the City says the number of breaks in the downtown, especially, is on the rise.
Once water is restored to affected residences and businesses, there will be a period of time where water will be cloudy, but safe to drink. At that time, residents will be advised by the City to run theirs taps for a few minutes to clear out the pipes until the water runs clear again.
Residents are asked to listen to the media, follow the City of Prince George’s social media accounts (@cityofpg and facebook.com/cityofpg) for updates, or contact the Service Centre for information at 250.561.7600.
