Following a big 4-2 victory over Victoria Friday night, the Prince George Cougars couldn’t get the same result on home ice Saturday in a 2-1 loss to the Royals.
In a game filled with penalties, the cats had plenty of opportunities on the powerplay, but were unable to capitalize. Prince George went 0 for 5 on the powerplay, but could not score.
Victoria was able to feed off of its strong penalty killing and scored two goals in the second period to put Prince George on its heels. Mitchell Prowse struck first for the Royals, sneaking into the slot and rifling a shot past Ty Edmonds.
Later on in the frame, the Royals went up two goals to the good on a five-on-three powerplay opportunity. Ryan Peckford was able to convert for Victoria.
Prince George finally got its offense going in the third, Kody McDonald was able to put away his own rebound just under six minutes into the period.
In front of 3,800 fans, the Cats had plenty of momentum behind them, but were unable to convert on a number of close calls. Royals goalie, Griffen Outhouse stopped 15 of the 16 shots he faced and got some help from a shot off the post in the final minute of the game to seal the victory.
Prince George falls to 20-7-2-0 on the season and has its four game home winning streak snapped. The Cats will now host the defending WHL champions, the Brandon Wheat Kings Wednesday night at CN Centre.
