Volunteer Challenge To Celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday

Prince George, BC, Canada / CKPG News

What could you do with 150 hours?

Volunteer Prince George is challenging you to give back that amount of time to the community in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday next year. The call to action is part of the ‘Canada 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge’ in collaboration with volunteer centres across the country.

The announcement comes on  International Volunteer Day (Dec 5). On average, Canadians volunteer about 154 hours each year and 59% of the population has volunteered at some point in their lives. Volunteer PG hopes to build on these numbers and engage more local residents to do the same.

The campaign will have a special focus on including new Canadians, Aboriginals, seniors, and youth. The challenge will finish off with a ceremony in Ottawa to recognize those individuals who contributed the most volunteer hours in each province and territory.

To participate, volunteers can register on the Canada 150 for 150 Volunteer Challenge on line, create a profile, and share their volunteer stories. The platform is expected to be accessible in late December through www.volunteerpg.com.
