Travelers may have noticed a new sign in the departure lounge at the Prince George Airport.
The Prince George Airport Authority (PGAA) and the Prince George Public Library are partnering up.
“When people are sitting in our departure lounge, they are waiting for their flight, they are looking for something to do,” says the Manager of Marketing and Communications for the PGAA, Lindsay Cotter.”So we thought this was a great way to create a partnership with the Library, encourage literacy and just give another added customer service for our customers.”
The Public Library is now offering an online Library card application. Travelers trying to pass the time now have access to free audiobooks, eBooks, newspapers, magazines and music.
“There’s a few different databases that we have,” says the Communications Coordinator of the Public Library, Amy Dhanjal. “One of them is called ‘OverDrive’ so it has thousands of eBooks and audiobooks. All you do is you either use your computer or you use the OverDrive app, and then with your Library card you have access to all of that.”
The library is hoping the Christmas travel rush will bring in more online registrations. However, to keep the card, members will have to eventually stop by the downtown location.
“With the online Library application, it’s a temporary card number for 30 days,” says Dhanjal. “So they have to come into the Library at some point within 30 days to get their actual card.”
