The Prince George Spruce Kings out-shot the Victoria Grizzlies and had plenty of powerplay opportunities, but just couldn’t capitalize in a 6-2 road loss Sunday.
Victoria got on the board just two minutes into the game as Marty Westhaver found the back of the net. Travis Schenider would quickly reply for Prince George on a two-on-one with Brett Mennear. Schneider found some space and beat Grizzlies goalie, Tony Rehm.
Later on in the frame, Victoria would regain the lead after Jamie Rome took a feed from Cam Thompson to put the puck past Grant. Then with 14 seconds left in the first period, Victoria found twine again as Cole Pickup scored in his 200th career BCHL game.
In the second period, Prince George would score on the powerplay thanks to the captain, Brett Mennear who won a draw back to Ben Poisson. Poisson made no mistake, finding space in the slot and sniping the puck top corner to make it 3-2.
The Spruce Kings would then have a big 5-on-3 powerplay opportunity and four other powerplay chances, but were unable to convert.
The Grizzlies scored three times in the third period to secure the victory, despite the Spruce Kings winning the shots battle 46-35.
Prince George is now one point behind Langley for third place in the Mainland Division with one game in hand. The Spruce Kings will square off with Langley right after the Christmas break on December 29th and 30th for a pair of games at Rolling Mix Concrete Arena.
