Prince George Minor Hockey Honours Former Players

If you’ve been upstairs in the lounge between the Kin1 and Kin2 Arenas, you’ve probably noticed some star-studded NHL jerseys hanging up for all to see.

The 28 framed and signed jerseys each represent a former player from the Prince George Minor Hockey Association (PGMHA) who was drafted or played in the National Hockey League.

PGMHA Vice President, Mick Jones, says the imitative is a testament to so many talented players in the North. “I mean if you look at the jerseys up there, some were drafted, some were walk ons, and just worked there way up there, it’s very impressive the amount of players that have come through the system and got to the ultimate goal.”

Plenty of players have made it through the ranks to the NHL, including current Philadelphia Flyers Defenceman, Brandon Manning. His father Leroy is certainly proud of every local player who made it to the big leagues. “It’s good for all the PG boys, just gives the minor hockey kids something to look up to and realize that if they work at it and things fall into place, they can all aspire to do it one day,” he said. “It’s just a privilege and minor hockey has been good and the City of Prince George has been good too, right from the Spruce Kings, the Cougars, we’re all part of it.”
