A date has been set for a by-election for three town council positions in McBride. Voters will head to the polls March 4th. The by-election is needed following the recent resignations of three councillor positions. The resignations led to the provincial government’s involvement in governing the small community 200 kilometres east of Prince George.
Nominations will be accepted January 17th to January 27th.
The Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development, Peter Fassbender, appointed Isabell Hadford as a municipal advisor last week. Hadford will also act as the Deputy Chief Election Officer. Karla Jensen from the Regional District of Fraser Fort George has been appointed as the Chief Election Officer.
Until the new Councillors are sworn in, the remaining elected officials, Mayor Loranne Martin and Councillor Rick Thompson can form a quorum to deal with pressing issues in the community however they’ve been advised to avoid any long term decisions and any significant legal or financial decisions.
