Twas’ the night before Christmas Eve and all through the mall, Prince George shoppers scramble to bring home their final haul.
Ok, so maybe we’re not the best at rhyming here at CKPG News.. BUT last minute shoppers are certainly rushing to get all the gifts they need before Christmas.
Marketing Director with Pine Centre Mall, Braydon Ouellet says this is the busiest time of the year for vendors. “It’s very busy here, it’s a little interesting, Christmas Eve this year falls on a Saturday so the majority of people probably do have the day off,” he said. Like we see with Prince George, it’s a last minute town, so we’ll see the mall pretty busy tomorrow.”
Many shoppers are rushing to complete their final purchases. Local shopper Kyle Rowell is no stranger to procrastination. “I’m guilty, I mean I was working a bunch right up until now and then just lazy about it,” he laughed.
Others like Jennifer Brertton sees the mall crowds as more of a battlefield. “You have to get in there, push people around you,”she joked. “It’s been crazy, they have to open up extra tills and everywhere you go there’s lots of people, everywhere is running out of stuff too.”
In fact, Ouellet says the demand for Christmas gifts actually brings in some vendors from all over. “We got lots of kiosks that come in and set up for the holiday season, they come from all over Canada,” Ouellet said. “We’ve got one group that’s here I believe they’re from eastern Canada and they come here for the Christmas rush.”
Meanwhile, other shoppers like Sarah Schleich rejoice after making that final purchase. “All done, all wrapped, all ready to go,” she said. “It’s feels amazing!”
Pine Centre Mall will be open until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday.
