Winless in all three previous meetings this season, the Prince George Cougars finally managed to shake off the Everett Silvertips defeating them 4-3 Friday night.
Jansen Harkins got the Cats rolling just 62 seconds into the game for an early 1-0 lead. In the second period, Harkins managed a similar feat, scoring 64 seconds into the frame to put Prince George up two goals to the good.
The Silvertips would quickly strike back however with goals from Matt Fonteyne off a rebound chance, and then Dominic Zwerger capitalizing on the powerplay to tie the game at two.
In the third, Fonteyne would redirect the puck into the net to put Everett up 3-2, but back came the Cougars for a late comeback. Brendan Guhle tied up the game at three, and then with just under six minutes left, Josh Curtis put home the game winner to seal the deal.
Prince George and Everett are now tied atop the WHL overall standings with 56 points, followed by the Regina Pats with 55 points. Although, Everett has 3 games in hand over Prince George, while Regina has 5 games in hand.
The Cougars play next at home on January 6/7 for a two game series with the Victoria Royals.
