Highway 16 Accident Claims One Life

One person has died following a fatal two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon on Highway 16 east between Tete Jaune Cache and Mt. Robson.

Sgt. Al Steinhauser with the North District RCMP confirmed to CKPG News the accident occurred around the noon hour, about 20 kilometres east of the junction with Highway 5. Emergency crews responded, while Highway 16 east was closed in both directions for several hours with no detour available. The highway has since been re-opened.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson says the accident occurred between a Toyota Matrix and a Honda Ridgeline vehicle. She says the number of people involved in the crash is not known at this time, while an exact cause of the crash is still being determined.

The age or gender of the victim has not been released, while Valemount RCMP continue to investigate.
