Tough OT Loss Eliminates Cariboo Cougars From Mac's Tourney

It was a back and forth semi-final battle between the Cariboo Cougars and Belarus U17 at the Mac’s Midget AAA Hockey Tournament in Calgary on Saturday.

After winning five straight games, Cariboo was unable to pull away with a victory in a tough 5-4 overtime loss. Despite falling short, the Cougars put forth a strong effort going into the third period down by two goals.

Trey Thomas pulled within one goal for the PG side and then with 4:20 left in regulation, Hunter Floris tied the game up at 4-4.

The late heroics took the game to an extra frame, but Belarus U17 was able to capitalize on the powerplay and score early to end Cariboo’s tournament.

This is the second straight year the Cougars have been knocked out of the semi-finals at the Mac’s tournament. The Cougars previously won the tourney in 2015.
