January: Alzheimer's Awareness Month

A proclamation that declared January Alzheimer’s awareness month took place in front of city hall this afternoon.

Mayor Lyn Hall read the proclamation alongside representatives for the 2017 Walk For Alzheimer’s which will take place on May 7th. A blue flag reading “forget me not” was raised out side of city hall as part of the proceedings.

“It really lends to the ability of the Alzheimer’s organization and the people in our community to bring greater awareness, and also it just gets the message out” Hall said.

Five hundred and sixty four thousand Canadians currently have dementia, and it’s estimated that twenty five thousand new cases arise every year.
