Looking for some momentum after two consecutive victories, the UNBC Women’s Basketball Team wasn’t able to capitalize in an 89-70 loss Friday night to the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.
Fourth-year guard, Zoe Dahl led the way for Lethbridge with 24 points including six assists and five rebounds on the night. Lethbrdige forward Jessica Bachynski also continued her strong play with her third double-double performance of the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
For the Timberwolves, Maria Mongomo scored a team high 22 points on the night, while Vailiki Louka put up a double-double performance with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Both clubs are back in action for the rematch in Lethbridge at 5 p.m. Saturday
On the men’s side of the court, the T-Wolves didn’t get off to the start they wanted in the New Year, following an 82-71 loss to the University of Lethbridge Friday night.
Pronghorns leading scorer Elliot Sentance put up 25 points in a double-double performance which included 11 rebounds. Point guard Dejon Burdeaux wasn’t too far behind with a 24 point night of his own for Lethbridge.
For the Timberwolves, Marcus MacKay scored 25 points on the night and hit five of six shots from beyond the arc. Rhys Elliot scored 17 points, while Austin Chandler had 13 points.
This marks the third consecutive loss for the Timberwolves who now fall to 4-7 and sit 11th in Canada West.
Lethbridge and UNBC will play in the rematch 7 p.m. Saturday night.
