The Prince George Cougars came out firing Saturday night en route to a 4-2 victory over the Victoria Royals at CN Centre.
The shots were plentiful for the Cats, unfortunately the first one just went the wrong way. Less than a minute into the game, the Royals were assessed a penalty. With Cougars goalie Ty Edmonds off the ice for the extra attacker, Jansen Harkins tried to make a pass along the right wing wall. Unfortunately the puck went all the way down the ice and into the empty cage.
The stars would align for Harkins however, who fittingly scored the next goal on Griffen Outhouse of the Victoria Royals to kickstart the Prince George offence. Midway through the first period, Tate Olson blasted home a one timer to give the Cats a 2-1 lead.
Colby McAuley made it 3-1 just five minutes later after he parked himself in front of the net and re-directed a Kody McDonald pass. After the first period, the shots were 20-5 in favour of Prince George.
Early on in the second period, the newest addition to the Cougars would score his first goal. Nikita Popugaev made the crowd go wild after knocking home his own rebound to put PG up 4-1.
The Cougars held on for the 4-2. Next up, Prince George will host the Portland Winterhawks on January 17th.
