The Cougars pulled more strings this morning with the addition of Slovakian forward, Radovan Bondra from the Vancouver Giants. This is the second deal the Cats got done less then a week before the deadline which is today, also acquiring Nikita Popugaev from the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday.
The cats most notably sent forward Bartek Bison to the Giants. 2000- born forward Tyler Ho is also on his way to Vancouver, along with a third round pick in the 2018 WHL bantam draft.
Bondra is a 1997 born forward who was selected in the fifth round of the 2015 NHL entry draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. Bondra has also represented Slovakia at the past three world junior championships. Bondra currently has 31 points in 32 games.
Just an hour after the deal, General Manager Todd Harkins struck once again as he acquired 97′ born Tanner Wishnowski from the Spokane Chiefs for an eight round pick in the 2018 WHL draft. Wishnowski has played in 78 WHL games not including 18 playoff games last year with the Kelowna Rockets.
Harkins explained how he’s adding pieces to an already fierce Cougars squad. “When you get some older experience coming in, like Radovan and Tanner, their just gonna mesh right in because the core is still here and has been for a long time.”
The Cougars take on the Red Deer Rebels tonight in game one of a four game road trip which will also include trips to Medicine Hat, Lethbridge, and Calgary. Bondra is expected to make his Cougars debut Wednesday night in Medicine Hat, and Wishnowski due to injuries will join the team when they return to Prince George.
