The Cougars exploded for four goals in less than 11 minutes in the third period, to post a stunning 6 – 5 shoot out victory Friday in Lethbridge. Newly acquired Nikita Popugaev had a goal and two assists and the lone goal in the shootout to lead Prince George while Brogan O’Brien scored his 6th and 7th goals of the season.
Prince George trailed the Central Division’s second place team 5 – 1 after forty minutes. But the comeback began with Jesse Gabrielle’s powerplay goal at 5:13. Less than two minutes later, Josh Curtis scored shorthanded. Then O’Brien struck for his two goals within the next nine minutes.
Gabrielle ended the night with 1 goal and 1 assist while Jansen Harkins had two assists. Nick McBride was beaten 5 times in the first 26 shots he faced but slammed the door after that. He stopped 16 shots in the third period and through overtime and then stopped all three Lethbridge attempts in the shootout.
The Cougars wind up their Alberta road trip tonight in Calgary.

Kale Kane scored at 1:35 of the second overtime to lift the Chilliwack Chiefs to a 6 – 5 win over the Spruce Kings. The Kings forced the OT with the tying goal in the last five seconds of the third period. The two teams meet again tonight at 7 in Prince George.
