It’s the biggest business competition in Western Canada. Each year, the JDC West competition puts the debate, academic and athletic skills of post-secondary students to the test. Once again, the UNBC JDC West members brought home hardware.
“It was an incredible success!” says the Faculty Advisor, Alison Anderson. “First in Athletics, first in Fundraising, second in our Entrepreneurship; one of our Academic teams, and second in Participation.”
The group also came in fourth in the Debate category, which is the best placing in UNBCs history.
Anderson says UNBC usually does well in the Fundraising category. “This year we raised $85,000 and all the schools together raised $300,000. So a big chunk of the funding came from UNBC and that’s thanks to our community and the support we have there.”
Sydney Redpath is part of the team that brought home the Entrepreneurship trophy. “There was screaming and jumping and then all of the sudden I’m on the stage and then I’m off and there’s tears and big hugs everywhere!”
Redpath is a third-year Marketing Major student. She says the JDC West competitions changed her academic career. “When I was in my first year I wasn’t even sure I wanted to be in business, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my degree. I didn’t know if I wanted to be in University. Then JDC West just completely convinced me that this is where I belong.”
