Sawchenko Shuts Down Cougars Offence In Warriors Win

A sold out crowd at the CN Centre watched the Moose Jaw Warriors upset the Cougars 2 – 1. Zach Sawchenko stood tall in the Warriors net, stopping 34 shots to lead the Warriors to the win.
Spencer Bast and Brett Howden scored for Moose Jaw while Colby McAuley had the lone goal for the Cougars. All of the goals came in a 3:47 span in the second period.
The Cougars had posted a series of third period comebacks in their five game winning streak. However Sawchenko stopped everything in the third period as the Cougars outshot Moose Jaw 14 – 6 in the third and 35 – 22 in the game. Sawchenko was named the first star of the game.
The 5,896 tickets sold for the game marked the first sellout in Prince George since April 25th, 2007. And while the crowd didn’t have a lot of goals to cheer about, they were energized by $123,851 50/50 jackpot, the largest draw ever for the Prince George Cougars Society.
Prince George kicks off a five game road trip Saturday in Kamloops. It will mark their fourth game in five nights.
