Today is the first day new legislation regarding alcohol has been in effect. Businesses such as salons, bookstores, art galleries and more can apply for liquor licenses.
The owner of Trendsetter’s salon says the new laws create an unfair advantage for small businesses. “It’s becoming a competitive edge now. They are forcing us to do it (purchase licensing) because if we don’t other businesses are going to, and they will be favored. So we pretty much have to pay this money to remain competitive.” Said Craig Landon, the owner of Trendsetters hair salon and day spa.
The initial cost of a liquor license is upwards of $4,000. Salon’s and other businesses will have some thinking to do in the days going forward.
