Close to 40 Low Income Residents Get Pampered

Nearly 40 people got pampered at Core Salon and Spa today. Every three months, the business looks for ways to give back through the “Core Cares” program. This month, they teamed up with Positive Living North.

“We are doing manicures and some waxing for the girls, or guys; we do have both. Cut and style”, says the Co-owner of Core Salon, Lisa Blake.

Charlene Prince was one of the residents to receive a new cut and style. The Prince George woman can’t remember the last time she had her hair done. “Just the other day I was wondering gee, I wish I could afford a haircut and here I am.”

Prince has been staying KETSO YOH since December. She says people like herself are often forgotten.”A lot of times homeless people get put down and that, and it’s not their fault most of the time. Especially with high rent.”

After a new hairdo and manicure, Cary Gauthier says she feels like a millionaire. “I haven’t been pampered like this in forever. So it’s kind of like an overwhelming feeling and I just feel like crying.”

Many left with a renewed sense of self-confidence. Blake says the salon just tries to do its part in the community. “I just feel like I have been blessed to have my dream come true and own this company and do the things that I love to do, and I feel you should use your blessings to bless others.”
