More Trucks On The Road Concerning For Civic Officials

While the road conditions are conducive, log trucks and other large trucks are working night and day. But it adds to the number of big trucks moving through Northern BC communities are impacting both road infrastructure and safety. Recently, nine-axle loads were put on the roads in and around Vanderhoof. Initially, that was worrisome for the District. But things have changed.
“A year ago, we were worried as Northern communities about these bigger trucks going down these highways and causing more damage to the highways, unsafe and so on,” says Brian Frenkel with the District of Vanderhoof. “But through an education component , we see that that is not as true as we thought it might have been.”
However, he says, as per a Union of BC Municipalities resolution in the Spring, civic officials are still calling on the federal and provincial governments to consult with municipal officials when decisions around things like allowing nine-axle loads on the highways are made.
