With temperatures expected to remain above 0 °C over the next week and no significant snowfall on the way, it looks like the end of ski season for a local hill. The Hart Highlands Winter Club closed its doors on Valentine’s Day, and isn’t expecting to reopen until next winter.
“I think the dream would be to stay open until Spring Break,” says the President, Bernadette Kipping, “but it has been very rare that we have stayed open until then. We would stay open as long as there was enough snow on the ground.”
While the weather wasn’t the most cooperative this winter, the ski club drew many residents to the slopes. When conditions were the best, Kipping says about 500 people came out.
“You mean for the 18 days we have been open? Any of those days were fantastic to be honest with you. We had lots of kids show up. With our Facebook page, the kids are saying ‘When are you opening? When are you opening?’ So when we are open they do show up.”
