Prince George – Valemount MLA Shirley Bond was joined by a number of community members to announce $25,000 in funding to continue the Community Voice Mail Program, started two years ago by the Aboriginal Housing Society to contact those in need of a home. But it has since morphed into a service to connect those without means of communications with family, doctors and employers.
“Having the ability to receive messages and communicate with prospective employers, health-care providers and others is essential in the world we live in today,” said Bond.
Mike Morris, the MLA for Prince George – Mackenzie said, “Not having access to secure, personal phone services is a significant barrier for unemployed and vulnerable people in our community. The Community Voice Mail Program removes this barrier for users, so they can stay informed of opportunities for jobs, housing and other services.”
The funding will allow the program to be delivered over the next year. It serves up to 300 clients each year.
