The Canadian Bureau for International Education’s initiative to encourage more Canadian students to study abroad called “Learning Beyond Borders”, has a new partner. UNBC has announced they are joining the initiative with the goal of boosting the number students that are going to study abroad.
As of now, 3.1 % of full-time undergraduate university students have an education abroad experience and 60 UNBC students are currently studying abroad.
UNBC’s Vice Provost of Student Recruitment, Bill Owen stressed that the main goal is to find ways to support, and encourage students to study abroad. “We need to know what are today’s students thinking about in terms of why they’re not going to study abroad. Then address those by figuring out creative, and innovative ways in which we can support students in taking these opportunities”.
The school intends on digging deeper into finding out why more students are not choosing the opportunity to study abroad. UNBC is also taking parts in both sections of the initiative: the Innovation, and Promotion zones for learning abroad.
