7th time was the charm for Ty Edmonds.
6 straight starts he was on the brink of setting the Cougars all-time record for wins, and 6 straight starts he came up empty.
But not Friday night. Edmonds made 19 saves in a 4-1 Cougars win over the Oil Kings, and more importantly, made history.
“It’s a pretty surreal feeling. It’s something I knew I’d get sometime but I’m happy it’s over with. But it’s a pretty surreal feeling and I’m happy to share it with the guys here,” said Edmonds.
Career win number 96 didn’t demand the best effort of Edmonds’ career. The Cougars dominated the game and didn’t give up many chances. It was a relatively pain free evening for Edmonds, who had been stressing for nearly a month about picking up the historic win.
“It was stressful. But I’m happy it’s over with and we can move on now and it not be a burden,” said Edmonds.
With 9 games left in the season, the question is can Edmonds hit triple digits?
“Wouldn’t mind that. 4 more to get 100. That wouldn’t be the worst thing ever,” said Edmonds.
