BC’s Energy and Mines Minister celebrated Mining Day at the Legislature today. Mining took a hit in August of 2014, when a tailings pond for the Mount Polley mine near Likely, BC, breached. It spilled millions of tonnes of effluent into the Quesnel River system. Today, government announced it has addressed all the recommendations from the Independent Expert Panel that was formed as a result of the incident. But Minister Bill Bennett says the industry has made great strides in the past decade.
