Beyond The Market Stays Afloat

The Province has awarded Community Futures of Fraser-Fort George $100,000 for the Beyond the Market program. It aims to help budding farmers get their products to market, but its funding dried up with the end of the Omineca Beetle Action Coalition.
“Because we believe agriculture is really the responsibility of the federal and provincial governments, we’ve actually been trying to put forward a provincial proposal,” explains Christine Kinnie, who coordinates the Program. However, that more secure funding model has yet to gain attention.
However, despite the funding, the program will likely be restricted to Fraser-Fort George and not the Bulkley-Nechako Regional District, where it used to reach as far west as Smithers.
