Some good news for Northern BC homeowners. According to the Housing Affordability Index for 2016, the average homeowner in the North spends about 27 percent of their incomes on housing. In Prince George, the number is 27.2% and the same for Quesnel, 20.1% for Mackenzie homeowners. That includes the mortgage, property taxes, user fees and utilities. By the same token, the Northern BC Real Estate Board also shows house prices also increased modestly in many communities. All these numbers are a stark comparison to Vancouver, where home ownership claims 125.4% of a homeowner’s income.
