The BC Summer Games will be returning to Prince George in 2022. The announcement was made this morning by MLA Mike Morris at the Prince George Exhibition Grounds. It will be the first time the games have returned to the city since 1990.
The provincial government considers the games to be an important developmental event for the province’s top young athletes. More than 3,700 athletes, coaches, managers and officials are expected to attend the game which will feature 18 sports.
At least two Prince George Olympians, Alyx Treasure and Megan Tandy, have participated in past Summer Games.
Prince George has hosted the BC Summer Games in 1990, the BC Winter Games in 1981 and the 2015 Canada Winter Games. The 2015 Canada Games required nearly 5,000 volunteers and produced a legacy of $1.1 million for sport and community development programs. It’s economic impact on the city was estimated to be $83 million.
