The unemployment rate stands at 7.9% in Prince George. That’s up nearly 2 points from 5.8% one year ago. However a labour analyst with Statistics Canada says the number has risen because more people are looking for work. The number of people working in Prince George has risen by nearly one thousand over the last year and the participation rate has also grown by a percentage point.
The story is similar in the Cariboo region when the rate rose from 7.4% last February to 9.7% last month.
The month to month rate in BC dropped a half point to 5.1% while the national rate was down 0.2% to 6.6%.
