The Wenatchee Wild scored three unanswered goals in the third period, including two in the final 60 seconds to beat the Spruce Kings 4 – 3 and defeat Prince George 4 games to 2 in their first round BC Hockey League series Sunday night.
Prince George appeared to be on the verge of forcing a seventh and deciding game in the series when they took a 3 – 1 lead into the third period of game six. But the home-town Wild roared back with three goals including Matthew Baker’s game winner with only 6 seconds remaining in regulation time.
Chong Hyun Lee, Ben Poisson and Kyle Johnson scored for the Spruce Kings while Tavin Grant stopped 30 shots in the Prince George net. Anthony Yamnitsky stopped 15 shots in the Wenatchee net to post the win.
The Spruce Kings dropped the first three games of the series before posting back to back wins against the heavily favoured Wild. Wenatchee topped the BCHL with 94 points in the regular season while the Spruce Kings posted 54 points to finish 4th in the Mainland Division.
