Federal Funding Helps Canfor Pulp

The Government of Canada is putting some serious money behind a local project. Under the Sustainable Development Technology Canada fund, the federal government has provided $13 million to Canfor Pulp for the further development of the pulp giant’s bio fuel project. Canfor is working with the Australian-based Licella Fibre Fuels to use waste from the pulping process to create a bio-crude oil. Canfor’s new biocrude could be refined by existing refineries into next-generation biofuels and biochemicals that can be easily integrated into conventional fuels markets.
“We have the opportunity to create a truly renewable biofuel that can easily integrate with conventional fuels to dramatically lower environmental impacts,” said Martin Pudlas, Vice-President of Operations for Canfor Pulp. “This funding from SDTC provides critical support as we look to operationalize this truly green technology.”
