Kelly Road Replacement School Announced

Kelly Road Secondary is being replaced. Today Liberal MLA’s Shirley Bond and Mike Morris announced a replacement school will be built at a cost of more than $44 million. The province will contribute $43.3 million while School District #57 will contribute $1 million.
Construction is expected to begin this fall and be completed within three years. “This $44.3-million investment provides a state-of-the art school for students and teachers and will create local jobs,” said Prince George – Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris. He added, “The new Kelly Road Secondary school will provide a modern, safe and inspiring place to learn, teach and work for years to come.”
The school will replace the current 56 year old facility. When complete, it will have room for 900 students. “Built in the early 1960’s, the school has served many purposes and has seen many additions,” said Prince George – Valemount MLA Shirley Bond. “It has served the community well and it’s now time to bring a new school in, designed to better suit the needs of today’s learner,” added the former #SD57 Trustee.
The new school will meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standards. It will take advantage of natural lighting and feature large open and collaborative learning spaces. The government says the design features will support the new provincial curriculum.
