Province Supports Improvements at G.R. Baker Memorial

The province is backing plans to redevelop G.R baker memorial hospital in Quesnel.

A business plan includes further analysis of health-service needs and more detailed information on the project’s scope and costs.

Cariboo North MLA Coralee Oaks says she’s hopeful that construction will start this year to see an emergency department and intensive care unit on the same floor.

She wouldn’t elaborate on whether that’s through extension or the use of the same facility.

Mayor Bob Simpson disagrees with that notion calling it “unrealistic” to think shovels will be in the ground this year.

The consultation process with local partners and First Nations are expected to take place over the next 3 to 4 months.

An estimated price tag for the proposed project would be in the range of $20 million.
