A new agreement will see the United Steelworkers Union Local 1-425 in Williams Lake, join forces with Local 1-424 in Prince George. The Williams Lake local was home to around thirteen- hundred members.
The two locals were originally under one roof forty years ago. The Williams Lake local broke off on its own in 1976. The Union believes the move will make dealing with issues in both locations faster, and easier. With the merge they are now one of the largest locals in western Canada.
“It makes it so we can streamline decision making. Coming down the road, all of us sticking together will give us a strong position at the bargaining table.” said Union Vice- President Brian O’Rourke.
