HIGHLIGHTS: Cariboo Cougars Crowned BCMML Champions
Marcus Allen says he should have had it.

The Cariboo Cougars netminder wasn’t happy with himself when the game 1, double overtime goal got by him.

So what did he do? With the Cariboo Cougars on the verge of getting swept in their 3rd straight BCMML finals, Allen pitched back to back shutouts – 2-0 Saturday, and 4-0 Sunday – to guide the Cats to their first championship since 2008.

“I was pretty mad about that overtime goal, I probably should have had it. I just used that for motivation to bounce back,” said Allen. “You never really get two shutouts in a row in a series, it’s pretty awesome.”

The title was a little extra sweet for coach Trevor Sprague, who had lost his last 6 BCMML finals appearances. Earlier in the week he said it wasn’t a monkey, it was a gorilla on his back.

“The gorilla’s gone. Hopefully there’s more to come of this over the next couple weeks with the Telus Cup a month away. Very happy for our staff and very excited for our organization, our players and the people that supported us,” said Sprague.

“He dedicates his life to this team and it’s just a huge win for Trevor,” said Allen.
