The province announced that they will be moving forward with the design stage of Phase 3 for the Cariboo Connector, which will see Highway 97 expand to four lanes from Prince George to Cache Creek.
Phase 3 currently has four projects targeted that will see upgrades to the Old Cariboo Highway and Highway 97.
It will add an additional $200 million to the already $440 million committed to Phase 1 and 2.
Construction is expected to start in 2019.
Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond says once Phase 2 is complete, 50% of the connector will have been twinned.
