Council has given early approval of a tax hike for residents of the city. Back in February, Council approved an overall tax hike of 3.18% increase. That is the amount the City needs to increase taxes across the board to maintain services. Last night, Council gave first three readings to how that hike will be broken down among the different classes of rate payers, like residential, light industrial, major industrial and business. For residential taxpayers, that breaks down into 8.88% per $1,000 of assessed property value. Council will give final approval at a special meeting at noon Wednesday.
