The first- ever TED-X was launched at UNBC today.
“TED is such an important part of our world these days. UNBC is a leader too. It only makes sense that we would organize a TED-like event using the TEDx platform to make something special. It is also encouraging to have UNBC stand behind such an important project like this,” says Grant Bachand, President and Curator of TEDxUNBC.
TEDx is a non-profit organization dedicated to talking about issues of relevance. UNBC has been cleared to use the theme of dispelling misconceptions because there are far too many misconceptions about Prince George.
“We get to pick our own theme, so we put an application forward to TED and then they let us choose. So the theme is chosen by us, the organizing Committee TEDx,” says Bachand. “We feel that one would be a good one for Prince George because we get labelled for so many things by people who are not Prince Georgeians. This is us putting our own branding on everything.”
The organizers are accepting applications between now and the end of the month, and there is a four-stage vetting process for the event in September. And the organizers want to many people from all walks to apply.
