It appears there’s been a reprieve for up to six thousand endangered Nechako White Sturgeon. According to Nechako Lakes Liberal candidate John Rustad, all twelve thousand fish will be released into the Nechako River soon.
Rustad says negotiations between the Province, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council resulted in the decision.
Last week the Tribal Council held protests at the Vanderhoof hatchery when it was learned half of the twelve thousand fish were going to be destroyed. The Nechako White Sturgeon is a member of the Species At Risk list in Canada.
