There’s a new scam running around these days. This one features an individual making phone calls and claiming to work for a major bank.
Mounties say the fraudster asks victims to assist the bank and RCMP investigator with an investigation. Eventually the victim is asked to make some money transfers to help lure the fraudster out for Mounties. But instead the money is going directly into the pocket of the bogus bank employee.
Mounties say they would never use the public to assist in an investigation or ask anyone to make a money transfer. They warn residents to never agree to wire funds to someone they don’t know, never provide personal information over the phone and contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud website if you suspect suspicious activity. http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/fraud-escroquerie/index-eng.htm
