A classroom full of high school students eagerly put their artistic talents to work today at the College of New Caledonia. Faculty members in Web & Graphic Design and the Fine Arts program hosted ‘a Day of Art and Design’.
The program included an art session with the Instructor of the Arts certificate program, Betty Kovacic. “High school students often have anxieties about going to another institution. By doing this they get to meet some of the instructors, they get to see what the facility is like and they get to participate in activities that are similar to the ones they might do if they come into the program.”
15 students from School District 57 participated in the program, some coming as far as Mackenzie. “It’s one day they can figure out if it’s something they want to do or something they are going to rule out and try something different,” says Work Experience Coordinator with School District 57, Erin Thomas. “Having a local institution that’s readily available and affordable for local students, it’s great to let them know all of the options they have here.”
