Its International Recycling Day, a time to remember to NOT just throw away certain items in the garbage, but to help the environment and recycle. Over the last several years, the importance of waste reduction has been a growing topic in the region. In 2014, ‘Multi-Material BC’ launched a curbside recycling program with the hope of improving recycling in the city. Residents were then given two blue boxes for paper products and the other for container recycling. Since then there have been increased recycling initiatives, including the Mywaste app, which provides recycling schedules and reminders to residents when its pick up time. With these initiatives in place, the Regional District of Fraser Fort George says, they receive 14 thousand tonnes of recyclable materials each year.
