In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, a traditional birch bark canoe is being constructed thanks to a partnership between the Two Rivers Art Gallery, UNBC and the Prince George French Association. Metis Elders are sharing their cultural knowledge with students ranging in age from elementary to university. They hope to educate the community about the historical significance for years to come. Some students have even travelled across the province to learn process first hand. Completion of the canoe is set for Canada Day, but until then, a fully finished example is on display for the public at the Two Rivers Art gallery.
