The School District 57 Board will consider the 2017-18 budget at tonight’s regular meeting. Included in the $158 million budget are extra funds for the restored language between the BC Teachers’ Federation and the Province.
The budget is significantly higher than last year. The district is looking to spend $7.9 million on hiring more teachers, non-enrolling teachers and supports, as well as a Principal and Secretary for the soon to open Springwood Elementary School.
According to the District, there will be no impact to parents as far as fees.
There are 3 readings for the budget. If both the first and second reading are passed unanimously by trustees, it may go to the third and final reading tonight. The School Board is required to approve a budget for the next fiscal year by June 30th.
