Alexa Middelaer was four years old when she was killed by an alcohol impaired driver in 2008. To remember Alexa, her mother, Laurel Middelaer recognizes the police officers province-wide annually through the Alexa’s Team program. The program celebrates the continuing efforts to remove impaired drivers from our roads. Over 8 thousand BC impaired drivers were caught in 2016. Wednesday, 35 RCMP officers from the North District RCMP were recognized for pulling 970 impaired drivers off the road. Province-wide, an average of 66 people are killed each year in impaired driving crashes.
